Penn St Punishment

So the NCAA finally handed out a punished to the Penn St football program and the punishments came down hard. The School will lose a total of 20 scholarships (entire recruiting class), they can't participate in post season play for 4 years, they were fined $60 million, and they vacated a total of 111 wins from Paterno's all time record. These sanctions will also cause many of the current players to leave and play somewhere else. I do think that Penn State deserved to be punished but I feel that the players are being punished too harshly. These players were still in middle school and elementary school when this scandal took place. I feel that it is unfair that these players are being punished for something they could not affect. Thoughts anyone?

  1. Eric I would have to completely agree with you. The whole Penn State issue has been going on for two long, and I thought that the nation had come to a conclusion about that they were going to do about the situation. Then yesterday on the news you see construction crew removing Paterno's statue. It is impossible to try to erase him from Penn State, because Penn State would not have been the same without him. To take things away from the players, that had done nothing wrong seems completely out of the question to me. Yes, it is a university-wide issue, but too many people are getting hurt because of this. Another thing is, is that I don't think it really was Paterno's fault. How would you feel if the whole reputation of a top University was being weighed down on your shoulders? This is a very fragile situation, and I feel like these extreme measures are going a little far. I believe that Penn State has had punishment enough for everything that has happened, so when can we start to put this all behind us?
