John Terry Racism Trial
Captain of the Chelsea professional soccer team, John Terry was accused of saying resist remarks to opponent Anton Ferdinand during a game last year. Because of this, Ferdinand went to the police, and two weeks ago after the European Championship, a trial took place about the incident. Terry became known as the first top soccer player of England convicted of racial abuse during a game. Terry was accused of calling Ferdinand a "(expletive) black (expletive)" but Terry mentioned in an interview that is was just about "sarcastic exclamation" toward the player. Personally, bringing racism into a sport game is pretty insulting. Terry lost his right of being a captain, for the second time. The first time he lost his captain spot was in 2010 when he was caught cheating with his teammates (now ex) girlfriend. It's these little things that come out of peoples mouths that I really wish they regret doing. Just saying a few harsh words about someones race can put your career in jeopardy. Issues like this can't be handled lightly, and Terry was forced to pay a fine for the verbal damage he had caused.

In the sports world it is sad how forgiving many people can be. A fine is paid, words are exchanged, and usually an apology is given but by the end of the month all is forgotten. Before we know it Terry will be able to fight back for his captain band and represent his team once again.
ReplyDeleteIts about time people start paying for what they do and even if they are amazing athletes they are people, and people always have to pay for the consequences for their actions
I completely agree with you Mackenzie. Time kills a lot of important issues and because of time, things are forgotten. I feel like people in general get off easy because of this... would you agree? Theres no denying that athletes like Terry are amazing at what they do, but I feel like with the popularity and privilege that they gain, it gets to be a mental issue where they think they are better then everyone else. If you do something wrong, no matter who you are you should get some kind of punishment. People these days are getting off easy, like I said earlier.
